Student Council Projects
The Student Council is the primary fund raising organization in the school, taking over the role often played by their parents in their elementary school days thus gaining invaluable experience. The funds raised by the Student Council are then used to support all the teams and clubs in the school as well as charity efforts and school legacy projects. Past legacy projects have included:

Centennial Mural |
2007-2009 The 2007-2008 Student Council commissioned the James Marshall Alexandra Centennial Mural as a means of documenting and celebrating our long history. The mural features the original school building, our current building and four students from the 2007-2008 executives as a representation of all the students who have past through our doors. Half the costs were funded by the Student Council through their regular fund raising activities the other half will be offset by the sale of bricks. Have you bought your brick yet? The final project was showcased with the public at the September 16, 2009 Meet the Teacher Corn Roast. 2003-2005 As a means of keeping our community informed of the events occurring at Alexandra the Student Council undertook the installation of a lighted messaging sign. This major legacy project took two years to plan, finance and install. Advisors: Miss Linda Davidchuk and Mrs. Jami-Loy Heller |

Outdoor Multi-purpose Court |
1992-1995 The Alexandra Multi-Use Outdoor Court consists of two lawn tennis courts and a paved multi-use court for basketball, tennis, and badminton. The total cost of the project was approximately $20,000.00. The students of Alexandra have raised about $10 000 towards the cost of the project over the course of three years through various fund raisers. In addition to this we also solicited donations. We received support from the Alberta Sports Council ($5 000), the School District ($3 781), the School Council ($1000), and from Miss Middleton, a former student, has donated $3 000. The ribbon cutting ceremony was held June, 1995. Advisor: Mr. Lorne Cooper |

Foyer Mirror |
1986 "If only we can see ourselves as others see us." The foyer mirror provided a service to students in that they could check out how they looked and served as a reminder of how they look to their friends. Advisor: Mr. Lorne Cooper |

Phone Booth |
Occassionally students wish to have private conversations with their parents so the Student Council Executive searched out a means of providing this privacy. At this time AGT was evolving into the communication company, Telus and was replacing much of their signage. They were replacing their phone booths with the now familiar Clam shell fiber glass enclosure. The students learned how to make a presentation to a large corporation with a reasonal request that meant positive public relations for the new phone company. The phone booth is located in the hallway across from the school office. It contains a phone that is limited to free local calls. Advisor: Mr. Lorne Cooper |

Mascot |
To help promote school spirit and support for our sports teams the Student Council commission a team mascot based on one of the designs of our Jayhawk. Note: the Jayhawk designs that are use by our school were drawn by students. If you come up with a new creative design, we would be really interested in seeing it. Advisor: Miss Linda Davidchuk |

Hallway Video Cameras |
1999-2000 Upon the success and popularity of the camera installed in the foyer the Student Council decided to add two hallway cameras at the intersection of two hallways near room 314. This busy intersection is the furthest physical location from the school office. The students felt that cameras as this area which was a popular hangout for students, it would help some feel more comfortable if people felt that inappropriate actions by others could be seen and delt with. While no hard data exists it would be confirmed by students and staff who were involved in situations in this location in the past that the incidents of asocial behaviour have dropped to almost zero. Although this area had and continues to have assigned adult supervision before school and during in-days (weather related days that prevent students from going outside) the presence of cameras had made this location a more comfortable place for students. Video Bulletin System |
1998-1999 This system consists of a video backbone throughout our school tied to a TV broadcast system at strategic locations. We broadcast announcements, bulletin information, our 3 hallway cameras and a slide show of pictures taken around the school during the previous two to four weeks. At times we broadcast live or video productions throughout the school. A local cable company was our partner in developing this innovative project and provided us with free cable TV during the first few years of its use until they were taken over by a national company. 1999-2002 Large screen ceiling mounted TV/VCR units were installed in each classroom and connect to our installed video back-bone. Every morning at 7:00 a.m. these units turn on so that students may see the video announcements, hallway views and slideshow pictures in their homerooms. They automatically shut of when homeroom begins at the start of our school day. These units were also wired in the classroom computer using a special video card so that students or teachers work on the Computer can be displayed and heard on the classroom system to the whole class. It can also be video taped using this system for viewing at a later date. Advisor: Mr. Lorne Cooper |

MPR Movie Screen and Projector |
1996-1997 This Legacy Project consists of a large screen TV in our Multi-Purpose Room. The design includes a large screen that descends from the ceiling and a ceiling mounted projection system. Our system is also able to display computer images, video taped production and cable TV, all with amplified stereo sound, including remote mics. We use the equipment it for assemblies, meetings, movie rewards and movies during the lunch period, in-days and during morning supervision prior to the start of our school day. We were the first school to incorporate this kind of euipment and we were therefore able to assist other schools who installed similar systems at their locations. Advisor: Mr. Lorne Cooper |
