ESL Term Plans

The goal of the ESL program is to provide an opportunity for students who are new to Canada to learn English and about our school, our city and our culture.

Our focus for children who arrive at Alexandra with little or no knowledge of English is to learn about our culture and to learn enough basic English to function on their own therefore we do not focus on the curriculum.

Once students are in their second year at our school or have developed some ability to function in one or more subject areas they are expected to follow the same curriculum as their classmates. However, pullout support is provided to the student as well as a modified expectations of performance dependant on the student's individual abilities.

The province provides five years of support for ESL children.
