Miss Linda Davidchuk

1977-2010

Linda Davidchuk was born and raised in Edmonton graduating with a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta in 1977. Following a trip to Europe, she accepted a temporary teaching position at Alexandra Junior High in September of 1977. A four-month contract extended to a 33 year career working with middle level learners. Starting as a classroom teacher, she later became a school counsellor and after completing her Master of Education degree in administration from the University of Lethbridge in 1996, she served in the role of school administrator.

Linda met her husband, Gary, also an educator, when she moved to Medicine Hat. Together they raised two children, Liam and Shalon. Both attended Alexandra School. Their successes, a thirst for knowledge, the capacity to laugh, sportsmanship and giving back to their community, are as much a reflection of the quality of the education they received from MHSD 76 as their personal initiative.

When asked about teaching junior high aged students, she indicated, “This is a great age! Kids at this stage in their lives are just beginning to find their ‘voice’ as they transition from child to young adult. They keep you young at heart. And as trying as some days are, there is never a day without laughter. As each group moves on, as most teachers know, you often wonder where life’s adventures will lead them. It is wonderful to meet again as adults and enjoy moments from their time at middle school. Overall, the students and colleagues who have been a part of my career have enriched me by helping me become a better educator and person. Thank you.”

As for retirement plans Linda and her husband will attend the wedding of a former student in Northern Ireland this summer as the first step in a number of planned travel activities. Hopefully travel and spending time with their adult children will keep her busy.
